FOOD FOR CHRISTIAN THOUGHT
In Mere Christianity, in his chapter “Is Christianity Hard or Easy,” CS Lewis refers to the cause-effect relationship between Christ and the natural world when he writes, “It says in the Bible that the whole universe was made for Christ and that everything is to be gathered together in Him.”
George MacDonald very gently expands that concept with these words: “It is not the fact that God is all in all that unites the universe. Rather it is the love of the Son to the Father. For of no one-hood comes unity. There can be no oneness where there is only one. For the very beginnings of unity there must be two. Without Christ, therefore, there could be no universe.” (Unspoken Sermons, 3rd series, “The Creation in Christ) (discussed in Power of Yielding, p. 26)
