Using a British turn of phrase, I’ve basically been “gobsmacked” by Eben Alexander’s Proof of Heaven. More than anything else, because he is a neurosurgeon, I’m interested in what he says about consciousness and the brain.
Alexander, who really does know how the brain works, concludes that “our brain blocks out, or veils, that larger cosmic background, just as the sun’s light blocks the stars from view each morning” (72).
Everything about my Christian experience leads to this same conclusion–the reality that we are “More Than What We Seem” (the title of my poem in Yielding to Wonder).
