Still, still with Thee, when purple morning breaketh;
When the bird waketh and the shadows flee;
Fairer than morning, lovelier than the daylight
Dawns the sweet consciousness, I am with Thee.
(Harriet Beecher Stowe)
My recent interest in understanding the connection between Christ and consciousness opened a whole new window of inspiration in this old hymn. We are, indeed, new born each morning when the brain leaves its sleep mode and fires up to receive the first inspirations from our consciousness. A fresh and rested brain improves the reception. The Lord’s nearness rushes in: “I am with Thee.”
