Heart of consciousness

George MacDonald wrote about “our shadows of the heavenly” that Christ is ever giving to us. And then he connected those “shadows” to our consciousness, saying: “For our very beings and understandings and consciousnesses … are yet shadows of his being, his understanding, his consciousness, and he has cast those shadows; they are no more causally our own than his power of creation is ours.” (UNSPOKEN SERMONS, “Creation in Christ”)

It is in our consciousness, not the brain, that we hear the living Saviour and follow him as Christians. And the human heart shows us the difference between the two, if we let it.  “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”
