Inflowing consciousness

A teenager, who was wholly focused on sports and couldn’t carry a tune, suffered a concussion that changed the wiring of his brain. (Elise Sole, Yahoo Shine staff 11-22-13). After he recovered he was no longer good at sports—but he became a musical genius. He now spends his days writing and playing classical music.

Because the brain is only the “filter” (72) for our consciousness as neurosurgeon Eben Alexander wrote, because it is only the “receiving set” as Lewis concluded (Miracles 62), this teenager’s experience makes perfect sense. When the filter is changed or remodeled, a different conscious experience flows in. That’s also what happens when we humbly let go. Yielding and self-abandonment open us to more and more of the spirit of Christ.
